Your smile is one of the most attractive things about you and possibly the first thing other people will notice.  So that makes your teeth one of the most important things you need to protect to keep looking vibrant and youthful.  It’s important to look after your teeth as much as you can. Remember that once you’ve damaged those teeth, there’s really no going back. Here are some tips to help improve your teeth.

Brush At Least Twice A Day

Brushing your teeth is the most important part of keeping your teeth clean and healthy. It’s recommended that you brush your teeth after every meal, so if you’re having three meals a day, you should realistically be brushing three times a day. That’s not always possible, though, especially when an active lifestyle gets in the way. However, brushing twice a day is something you can certainly manage.  Definitely make brushing your teeth both in the morning and before you go to bed a priority. Brushing twice a day is going to help get rid of all that food and bacteria that have accumulated in your mouth and cause bad breath. As well, both of these can damage the enamel on your teeth. You also want to think about the type of toothpaste you use and base that on the specific needs of your teeth.  Cavities, tartar buildup, whitening, sensitivity?  There is a toothpaste for that.  Follow-up the brushing with floss and mouthwash to really ensure a thorough cleaning of the teeth.

Limit Your Sugar Intake

The last thing you want to hear when you go to the dentist is you have to have emergency tooth crowns or any other extensive treatment to fix what’s been damaged on your teeth. Your sugar intake can greatly impact the condition of your teeth so it is critical that you be extremely cautious. In fact, it’s generally known to be the number one cause of damage to the external areas of your teeth, the enamel. The enamel protects your teeth from sensitivity and further damage, so reduce your sugar intake as much as possible. The more you do, the more chance you have of making sure your teeth stay healthier, longer.

Cosmetic Surgery

If you weren’t genetically blessed with a perfect set of teeth or past poor habits have already taken a toll, you can always consider cosmetic surgery. There are plenty of treatments that you can get, so it’s worth looking into what’s available for you and what you might need in order to improve the health and appearance of your teeth. Whether that’s teeth whitening or replacing teeth. Or maybe you just need to replace teeth you have already lost. There are definitely endless options regardless of what has happened to your natural teeth.

Protect Teeth From Injury

And finally, as much as your teeth are strong, they’re not invincible. It’s important to try and protect your teeth from injury where you can. Make sure you’re wearing mouth guards during sports that are high impact and just take care wherever you’re going and whatever you’re doing that could cause injury.

Improving your teeth is something we can all actively do to make sure we feel good and look good.  No matter your age, there is nothing that will create a positive first and lasting impression more than a beautiful smile.
